The Nepal National Strategic Plan (2006‐2011) for HIV aims to contribute directly to the Millennium Development Goal (halt and begin to reverse the increasing trend of HIV by 2015) through numbers of key strategies for evention; and treatment care and support. The country has made strong efforts to contain the spread of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in the country and to provide treatment, care and support to people living with the virus. As Nepal is experiencing a concentrated epidemic, the priority for the next three years remains as prevention targeted interventions to reach most‐at‐risk POpulations (MARPs), with an emphasis on young and adolescents within these groups. At the same time, programmes for at‐risk populations, as identified in the National HIV/AIDS Strategy 2006‐2011 and so supported through various projects and programmes, will continue. This two‐prong approach is designed to create a complementary effort to ensure that all Nepalese in need of prevention, treatment, care and support programmes will be reached. Presently the estimate shows HIV prevalence amongst adult (15‐49) population stood at 0.39% (December, 2009).
