OHCHR monitored the human rights aspects of the Constituent Assembly election in Nepal, including the environment prior to, during and after polling day, with a view to assessing whether the rights of everyone involved in the election process were respected. The high voter turnout, including the 53 percent participation of women and the largely peaceful environment in which the election was conducted are important achievements. They mark crucial steps forward in the country’s transition from conflict to peace.
