Food for Assets (FFA) programmes form one of WFP’s largest areas of investment over time. Measured by food tonnage, and level of direct expenses between 2006-10, FFA programmes were the second largest of WFP’s food distribution modalities, after General Food Distribution. FFA programmes have the potential to generate significant impact in terms of food security, temporary employment creation and short term increases in participant’s incomes through the provision of money or food in return for short term and often seasonal employment on labour intensive projects such as road building.
