District in the Far West, Mid West and Western Region in Nepal have reported flash floods and landslides since Saturday (26th August). According to Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) Banke,Bardiya, Nawalparasi and Achham are the wprst affected districts. Relief activities are in operations. Executive Directors of NRCS, Mr. Umesh Dhakal gave a situation updated at the 7th Disaster Health Working Group meeting held at the National Health Training Center at Teku, Kathmandu this morning. He said NRCS assessment in Bake, Bardiya,Nabalparasi and Achham is on going. Some area in Bake are still inaccessible due to the problems posed by Rapti River.
The main issue hindering relief operations in Achham is inaccessibility. NRCS reported that the living condition among some of displaced in the area is appealing and decent temporary shelter together with food and drinking water remain the intimidate needs in the districts. They are also facing the shortage of medicine. Eye infections and diarrhoeal diseases have been observed and reported by the NRCS teams. UN and NGOs have been supporting government authorities and NRCS to procure the necessary equipment and medicine for relief operations.
