The Kenzo Tange Master Plan (KTMP) has been the official master plan for the
development of Lumbini for over 30 years. The plan covers a project area of 1x 3 miles with a Circular Levee and Central Link and it is widely known about in Nepal. The process of approaching the sacred site starting from the New Lumbini Village with the Cultural complex through the Central Link and then the Monastic Zone before finally reaching the Sacred Garden was the key concept of the KTMP that remained unchanged from the earliest planning stage. This was planned as a procedure to sanctify the minds of pilgrims when they approach the Ashoka Pillar.
