On the 18th of August 2008, the Koshi River burst through its eastern embankment and inundated signifcant areas in Sunsari district in eastern Nepal. Flooding resulted in mass destruction of homes, asset depletion, and displacement of communities from several Village Development Committee (VDCs) including Haripur and Shreepur VDCs. The water not only swept away their housing and belongings but also took away their livelihood as their agricultural land was converted into a sand covered desert. The families had lived in the area for more than ffty years until the food compelled them to move away from there. After the food, most of the families took refuge in their relative’s places, whereas few lived along the road.
