The construction materials we use consumes a lots of energy. We also use energy in our homes mainly for lightning, cooking, space heating and transportation. The use of fossil fuels such as petroleum and coal causes air pollution and also contributes to climate change. Furthermore, as Nepal does not have any fossil fuels reserves, import of fuels is often difficult and big burden on our economy. Today we have many options to reduce our energy consumption and also go for cleaner source of energy such as solar and biogas. Solar power is being widely used for water heating and lightning. Passive solar technology can also be used in building to reducing the need for heating and cooling. Green building technologies such as soil cements blocks and the use of rat traps bonds can also help in making building energy efficient, while lowering the cost of building as well. As a transportation system, non-motorized transport such as walking or cycling is the best way to reduce pollution as well as emissions. Other options include the use of clean vehicles and public transportation.
