Intangible Heritage of Bungamati
PDF File Size: 16.09 MB | Download
Bungamati, one of the historic settlements in the Kathmandu Valley, is culturally rich with numerous monasteries, temples, viharas, and traditional ponds. Its unique customs, traditions, and rituals have further strengthened its cultural identity, supported by the traditional Guthi system responsible for managing heritage and community affairs. However, rapid urbanization and modern development trends are causing younger generations to gradually disconnect from these invaluable tangible and intangible heritages. Preserving these assets has become urgent. Documenting the strengths and challenges of the Guthi system and traditional festivals (Na:kh) can help raise awareness among the youth and encourage their involvement in safeguarding cultural heritage.
