General Status of the System of Food and Agriculture Statistics in Nepal
|
In the field of Nepalese agricultural statistics, both the Central Bureau of Statistics and the Ministry of Agriculture carry out surveys for the same commodities but through different methods and for different purposes. CBS in the main undertakes macroeconomic surveys for the calculation of the national accounts, gross domestic product and the like, whereas the Ministry of Agriculture is more concerned with microeconomic studies linked to the extention and promotion of agriculture. On the other hand, CBS has been carrying out a crop and livestock survey with the assistance of ADB. Although the survey will be implemented twice a year from now on, neither its frequency nor its contents are sufficient for the needs of the agriculture ministry, especially regarding growing conditions of crops at village level. Therefore,both organizations will continue their respective activities on data collection.
