UNESCO has multi-sector expertise in education, natural, social and human sciences, culture, and communication and information. Articulating concrete deliverables in these areas, the UNESCO Country Programming Document (UCPD) 2011-20131 decodes in a comprehensive manner what UNESCO can offer to Nepal’s development. As a succinct presentation of UNESCO’s country programming experience and role in Nepal, the document sets out the framework for the organization’s future cooperation and key programme priorities based on the needs of stakeholders and country development requirements. In this way, the UCPD is an important tool to facilitate the planning, implementation and monitoring of programmes and projects that are, and will be supported by UNESCO. The UCPD aims to clarify and assert the organization’s responsibilities and concrete contributions in building peace, alleviating poverty, and fostering sustainable development and intercultural dialogue in Nepal in partnership with the government, other development partners and the United Nations Country Team.
