The winter fog lifted just in time for the UN Cares organized AIDS Day event, and the bunches red and white balloons bathing in the morning sunshine in the Rose Garden of the UN compound greeted the staff arriving to the office on 2 December 2011.The event gathered together a crowd of 350 UN staff of 18 UN Agencies, among them also some family members and former UN staff. The agency heads of UN RC, UNDP, WHO, UNDSS, UNHCR, IOM, UNAIDS, UNODC, ILO and OHCHR were present in the commemoration. The UN Cares team, uniformly dressed in red and black to mark the day, welcomed the arrivals warmly to the event, which for them was not only the culmination of many weeks of intense preparation, but also the day to share the achievements and activities of the entire year behind during the welcome remarks by the Chair, Ms. Shova Maharjan. She thanked the UN-agencies who have committed to support $ 1,000 to implement the approved work plan in 2012/2013.
