In August 2008, Nepal was hit by flooding in the eastern and western regions, affecting more than 250,000 people, many of who were already vulnerable. Flooding in the east was a result of the broken embankment of the Koshi River, Asia’s largest river basin. This flooding led to displacements, with an estimated 70,000 people displaced into close to 32 camps in 2 districts, and with approximately 50% of these IDPs expected to remain in camps for extended periods of time, therefore needing continued humanitarian support.
