Nepal is a hot spot for geophysical and climatic hazards and prone to many kinds of natural hazards which have occurred with increasing frequency over the previous two decades. The disasters frequently affect the economy and the population of Nepal, damaging livelihoods, hampering sustainable development, and in worst cases killing people. When disasters occur several human rights come under threat, including the right to a life with dignity, to an adequate standard of living including food, clothing, and housing, to quality education, and to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.
