Security Council Resolution 1325 Annotated and Explained
PDF File Size: 238 KB | Download
In this abstract, the Security Council is acknowledging the disproportion ate impact of armed conflict on non-combatants, including women and children civilians, and the fact that they comprise the vast majority of displaced persons. Rather than accidentally being caught in the crossfire, the council is also acknowledging that civilians are increasingly being specifically targeted by armed groups, thereby escalating the cycles of violence, with long-term impact on the prospects and conditions necessary for peace and reconciliation.
