Using information from WFP’s ongoing Food Security Monitoring System and rapid field assessment, 70 Village Development Committees (VDCs) in 10 districts in the mid- and far-western regions of Nepal have been identified as severely impacted by this winter’s drought. Last fall, households in the 70 targeted VDCs suffered a significant decrease in production of the summer crop due to erratic monsoon rains. This year, the driest winter on record has caused a 50% to 100% failure of the winter crop. The combination of these two climatic conditions has left households in the region struggling to meet food needs.
QUICK FACTS :- • 225,000 beneficiaries • 3,784 MTWFP food • $3,172,396 USD Total cost • 3 month duration June 15 to Sept 15, 2006. - Richard Ragan
