International Day of the Commemoration of the Victims of Holocaust Marked

KATHMANDU, 27 Jan 2017 —

The UN observed the International Day of the Commemoration of the Victims of the Holocaust with separate events from 27 January to 1 February.

On 27 February, UN, together with the Embassies of Israel and Germany and the European Delegation in Nepal organized an event which consisted of paying tributes to the Holocaust victims by the UN Resident Coordinator, the Israeli and German Ambassadors, Head of the EU Delegation and the Nepalese Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Hon’ble Jiwan Bahadur Shahi. On the occasion, posters related with Holocaust were put on exhibit for some 150 participants by the UN and the Israel Embassy. The main attraction of the event was the staging of a 2 hour duration professional theatre based on Anna Frank Diary staged by One World Theatre group. The event was also covered by the local media.


The UN screened the path to Nazi Genocide; Kinderblock 66 - Return to Buchenwald; Into the Arms of Strangers and; Woman in Gold in the UN House conference hall from 28 Jan to 31 Jan which was viewed by youth following a briefing by the NIO on the significance of the Commemoration of the Victims of the Holocaust. On Feb 1, UNIC organized an interaction programme with youths titled “Holocaust and lesson learnt for Nepali youths” which was participated in by 25 youths from various schools and colleges. In all the programs posters of Holocaust was put on display.
