UN mobile application in Nepal: all public documents on your fingertips

Offsetting complexity of accessing digital public documents of the UN has been facilitated by initiation of UN mobile application, which puts most relevant document at the top of search result according to queries of end user. The effectiveness of mobile application in enhancing the search of UN public documents, where more than 40% of the population of Nepal has access to the Internet and especially in youth, uses of the Internet in mobile is prominent way for information accessing and sharing in Nepal.

Mobile application, “UN in Nepal”, is parallel module of UNDRN search engine with full text to make the search on UN public information more intuitive and handy. UNDRN (United Nation Digital Repository in Nepal) is a digital archive, which includes all the available digital documents published by UN Agencies in Nepal with regular updates.
The mobile application version of UNDRN has not only made the document search and download easy, but also has saved the time and cost of the application user by minimizing traditional way of computing. The mobile application has also provided liberty to end-users with their own way of using the Internet (data or Wi-Fi), offline search result, history of document activities and the UN news for their convenience.

Simple home page of search engine facilitates end-users to acquire query to render list of most related documents into result with index factor. The search engine has also glimpse of recent news on the UN public information. Not only the response result to the queries made by the application’s user displays lists of probable desired documents, but also the metadata of those documents. The user can therefore sort out the required documents effectively and easily. The provision to view the history of searching and downloaded documents in the application also facilitates the user to search previous downloads and search records effortlessly.

How to use UNDRN in Mobile Application?
It is very simple to use the UNDRN through mobile app. The optimal requirement is a working smartphone and internet service. All it requires then are following steps:

  • Type “UN Nepal” at search bar of Google Play or at Windows Play according to the operating system of the smart phone
  • Press “Install” tab
  • Open the application “UN in Nepal”
  • “Sign-In” if the user is new to the UNDRN which requires only basic information for record purpose, or to “Log In”, if the user previously has signed in previously
  • Use features of the mobile application (Note: Mismatch of password 3 times while logging in will lead to suspension of user’s account.)
