WASH : Innovation Challenge

Kathmandu,August 17, 2018- We are delighted to share with you details of the Regional WASH Innovation challenge which was recently launched in partnership with BRAC and ask your support in sharing the contacts and details throughout your sectors and networks. This year the focus is on handwashing – looking for innovative ways to get Mothers and caregivers to wash their hands with soap at critical times.
If it’s simple in theory why is it so hard to practice?
This challenge is open to applicants from all countries in South Asia and there is a $5,000 prize for each of the three categories, full details and applications can be made through the following links.

Call for Submissions : UN Solutions Summit September 2018

Kathmandu, August 17, 2018-  

Solutions Summit is an annual catalytic gathering at UN Headquarters in New York during UN General Assembly high-level week at the end of September. This initiative lifts up and advances the work of exceptional teams who are already developing innovative solutions that address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The gathering serves as a catalyst to convene resources and talent around solution-makers.

During the Solutions Summit, a group of selected global innovators will give a ‘lightning talk’ outlining their breakthrough efforts to an audience of senior policymakers who have the means to pave solid regulatory foundations, investors who care deeply about long-term change and impact, industry leaders who are able to deploy quickly and at scale, fellow entrepreneurs who can share wisdom on starting up, and members of the public, including youth, who will bring additional creative insight. Solutions Summit involves in-person accelerator sessions and social media interaction with the selected solution-makers.

International Day of World’s Indigenous People 2018

KATHMANDU, 13 August 2018 – On 24th International Day of World’s Indigenous People, United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) participated in joint information outreach with UN Agencies and offices – UNRCO, UNDP and ILO – through UN outlet at Rastriya Sabha Griha, Kathmandu. UNIC served significant participants distributing UN publications and reports related to indigenous people, declarations and their rights throughout a day. Many visitors were eager to know more about the UN and the UN works. UNIC successfully addressed visitor’s queries and refer them to visit UN Digital Repository in Nepal (UNDRN, un.info.np/) for further the UN works in Nepal, for example; about 2030 Global SDG Goals. 
As parallel event, an exhibition of photos of indigenous people and foreign migration was in Nepal Tourism Board for three days.

Educational Outreach Program in Laboratory Secondary School

KATHMANDU, 19 JULY 2018 - United Nation Information Centre (UNIC) Conducted an educational outreach program in Laboratory Higher Secondary School, Kirtipur. Total 90 students of class 10 were participated in the program. UNIC team served them with clear view of the UN, explained about its current working agencies -- UNDP, UNESCO, WHO and so on. The team shared about ongoing 2030 Global agenda and also shared about the availability of UN Nepal related public information which are easily accessible through the UN digital library (http://un.info.np) . At last, the floor was opened for all the participants in which some of the students raised a questions and the program was terminated by addressing queries.

Briefly, UNIC team informed them about the UN in Nepal, its working process and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Educational Outreach Program in Champadevi Secondary School

BOSON, KATHMANDU, 29 JUNE 2018 -- With a view to educate an upcoming generation about UN and all other information relevant to UN, United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) organized an educational outreach programme on Friday, June 29th, 2018 at Champadevi Secondary School, Boson, Dakshinkali-1. Around 70 students from grade 8, 9 and 10 were benefited by the outreach. Along with sharing information, some of the students also participated in video shooting of articles reading of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

UNESCO receives the Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Award 2074

Kathmandu, 2 July 2018 - UNESCO receives the Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Award 2074 .
This year the Dr Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Award will be presented to UNESCO in recognition of the significant contribution that the Office has made to building peace, reducing poverty and fostering sustainable development in Nepal, through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information. The award ceremony will be held at the Dr Dilli Raman Regmi Foundation, Lazimpat, on Tuesday, 3 July 2018, at 8.00 am.
