Press Statement -United Nations Department Of Political Affairs

Kathmandu,14 June 2018- Nepal, 14 June 2018: The Department of Political Affairs has responded to the request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal for the closure of the DPA Liaison Office in Kathmandu after successfully fulfilling its mandate. In consultation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Liaison Office will be closed within the next three months.
The Liaison Office was established in 2011, in consultation with the Government after the withdrawal of the UN Mission in Nepal and tasked to support remaining aspects of the peace process and enjoyed close collaboration and partnership with the Government and a wide range of Nepali partners over the years. The Department of Political Affairs looks forward to a continued partnership with the Government and people of Nepal.

World Day Against Child Labour, 12 June

Kathmandu, 12 June 2018- The Nepal Labour Force Survey (NLFS) 2008 estimates the child population between 5 and 17 years of age to be 7.77 million, which is about 33 percent of the total population in the country Children constitute an integral part of the workforce engaged in both the formal and the informal sector.
This report, based on the data obtained during NLFS 2008, estimates that about 3.14 million children, i.e. about 40.4 percent of the child population in the 5 to 17 year age group, may be classified as children in employment (commonly called working children). Among these working children, the report further estimates that 1.60 million children, or almost 51 percent of all working children, fall into the category of child labour. Within the child labour category, 0.62 million children have been identified as being engaged in what is called hazardous work.
Child labour has been widespread in Nepal for many centuries, mostly in rural areas as part of the normal process of socialization.

Rosha Basnet: Expedition experience sharing of Mt. Everest Summit

Kathmandu, 8 June 2018-  According to base camp officials, A team of Women journalists successfully climbed Mt. Everest on 23rd May 2018. Among them Rosha Basnet is one of the Brave women who succeed to reach a highest mountain (Mt. Everest). She says her concern to social and environment lured her to explore and witness Mount Everest. Further she speaks about her major objectives such as to inspire people to aspire higher, fulfill jornalistic duty along the expedition, and to enhance advocacies on the issue surounding youths, girls and the mountain too.

Joint Oped: A plastic World

Kathmandu, 5 Jun 2018- Kathmandu alone uses around 4,700,000 to 4,800,000 plastic bags daily. In Nepal, 16 percent of urban waste is comprised of plastic, which is 2.7 tons of daily plastic garbage production. And this is just Kathmandu. When you look at the global level the data is staggering. Researchers claim humans have produced 9.1 billion tons of plastic so far, and much of it ends up in nature—causing harm to both living beings and the environment.

World Environment Day 2018 : Photography Competition

Kathmandu, 31 May 2018- On the occasion of World Environment Day, 2018, Clean Energy Nepal in collaboration with United Nation Development Program (UNDP) and Nepalese Youth for Climate Action (NYCA) is organizing the Photo Competition on the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution".
