Early Recovery : Nepal Earthquake Cluster Brief ( June 2015 )
PDF File Size: 255 KB | Download
The following early recovery priorities have been set under the leadership of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD) and the Ministry of Urban Development:
1) Debris management and safe demolition:
With some 500,000 houses destroyed and 283,000 damaged, over 40 million cubic metres of debris needs to be managed.
2) Community infrastructure and livelihood recovery:
Affected communities lost significant livelihood assets such as small irrigation structures, existing renewable energy sources, community feeder roads and trails, seed stores, market centres and cooperative offices – 69 per cent of the population in the 14 priority districts report loss of livelihood.
3) Restoration of critical local services:
In the 14 most affected districts, 244 government buildings are totally damaged. Many households are estimated to have lost essential documentation, and without offices to replace these, people’s access to services and emergency relief is severely limited.
