Statement of Mr. Staffan de Mistura Head of The Mission to Nepal on UN Assistance to The Peace Process

The united nations is pleased and honored to be asked to provide assistance to the peace process in nepal in a number of areas. the secretary-general is committed to respond positively to this invitation, as is demonstrated by the arrival this mission today.the mission will carry out a broad agenda of meetings. in addition to it contacts with the government of nepal and the communist party of nepal , it will also meet with leaders of political parties and members of parliament, civil society organizations, news media,representatives of the international community. through consultations with all concerned, the mission seeks to forge a common understanding about the scope and nature of the UN role in the peace process.the inclusive nature of our consultations is fundamental. when the united nations takes part in a peace process, it does so on the basis of a shared understanding of its role among the different parties to the conflict.
