On the 7th, 8th and 9th of September various activities and functions took place throughout the country. At the central level, the day was marked on the 8th
with a joined programme at the Nepal Academy, Kamaladi, Kathmandu, which started at 9pm and ended at 5pm. During the day awards were distributed to the best performing schools - both at the national and regional level. The Non Formal Education Center, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur joined the event by putting together an exhibition of books, running trainings, distributing learning and reference materials produced by both the Government and Non-Government Organizations. Some Community Learning Centers (CLCs) involved in the field of literacy also took part to it. The UNESCO Office in Kathmandu actively
