Abstract:
The Acute Watery Diarrhoea (AWD) outbreak in the western parts of Nepal is an immediate and serious concern for the relief community in Nepal. As of 13 August
the Ministry of Health and Population has confirmed 282 diarrhoea related deaths within 157 diarrhoea affected Village Development Committees (VDCs) of 17 districts in the Mid and Far Western Regions of Nepal since 5 May. Jajarkot and Rukum districts have been worst hit by the diarrhoea outbreak with neighbouring districts also affected. Though the number of cases and affected districts have increased, deaths due to diarrhoea is now in a decreasing trend. The relief community, including UN Agencies, international non-governmental agencies and local partners are working closely to support the Government of Nepal’s efforts to control the outbreak and
prevent further occurrences. Humanitarian agencies are providing support at the central, regional, district and local levels through relief materials and technical support.
