UNESCO receives the Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Award 2074

Kathmandu, 2 July 2018 - UNESCO receives the Dr. Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Award 2074 .
This year the Dr Dilli Raman Regmi International Peace Award will be presented to UNESCO in recognition of the significant contribution that the Office has made to building peace, reducing poverty and fostering sustainable development in Nepal, through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information. The award ceremony will be held at the Dr Dilli Raman Regmi Foundation, Lazimpat, on Tuesday, 3 July 2018, at 8.00 am. 

Christian Manhart, UNESCO Representative to Nepal, will represent the Director-General of UNESCO at the awards ceremony, and he expressed his appreciation for this wonderful recognition. 

“I am greatly honoured to accept this award on behalf of Director-General Audrey Azoulay. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Dr Dilli Raman Regmi Foundation for recognizing UNESCO’s contribution to the sustainable development of Nepal and its people.” Manhart also added, “This is an auspicious moment, as this year marks the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Kathmandu Office.” 

 The award is granted annually by the Dilli Raman Regmi Foundation Board and is given to individuals or institutions who have contributed to the cause of peace and the betterment of Nepal and its people. In previous years, the award has been presented to exceptional individuals such as Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Jimmy Carter, Tony Hagen and Ban Ki-Moon. 
The award was established by the Government of Nepal in memory of Dr Dilli Raman Regmi (1913 – 2001), who was an ardent follower of the Gandhian philosophy of non-violence, and one of the pioneers of the democratic movement in Nepal. His legacy lives on through an international and national peace award and the Dilliraman-Kalyani Regmi Library and Museum.
