Message from UN Resident Coordinator, Valerie Julliand on World Press Freedom Day 2018
5/9/2018 11:31:57 AM

Kathmandu, 7 May 2018- For a country to be peaceful and democratic, press freedom is  key and essential. A free press can question the correct, shine a light underneath and make the system unacountable.

It is impressive to see press in Nepal how its working relentlessly towards reflecting the people's voice, protecting democratic values, human rights and the rule of law regardless of any political transition or in any crisis situation. On the World Press Freedom Day, I on the behalf of the United Nations express commitment towards the incessant work of press, a free press towards protecting journalists because this is the only way to stand up for our right to truth.
